Scott Martelle is the author of, among other historical titles, Blood Passion: The Ludlow Massacre and Class War in the American West and an editorial writer for the Los Angeles Times. Martelle will speak about the Ludlow Massacre against the backdrop of the more than 75 people killed during the 1913-14 coal strike. Rather than passive victims of corporate greed, Mr. Martelle sees the strikers as freedom fighters rebelling against what had become corrupt regional economic and political systems.
